description

July 18, 2007 To:Alameda City Attorney Alameda City Manager Alameda Mayor To Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this letter is to report a hazard on the Alameda Bike Path on Harbor Bay Isle. As I was riding along composing this letter in my mind yesterday, I came across a woman who had fallen off her bike and was injured as a result of this very hazard. She was cut, bruised, nauseated and faint and we had to call someone to come get her. This happened on July 17th at about 4:45PM along the Bay across from Peet’s headquarters. There are several sections of the path in that area (along Shoreline Park) where tree roots have caused the path to rise up. Because these hazards are always near the trees, a shadow is across the path at those areas and therefore they are nearly impossible to see. In addition there are two other areas on the path with the same problem. They are on the section of the path that runs between the Chuck Corica Golf Course and the airport, along Harbor Bay Parkway. These two sections are also very difficult to see and very hazardous. I respectfully request that you fix these hazards as soon as possible. In the meantime, I believe that someone should mark them with visible paint so that those of us who travel the path can see them before we come upon them. It would only take a couple of hours to do that. I assume that this letter, in addition to my phone report to City Maintenance today, case report C 45485 and C 45486, will result in a quick resolution and that the city is now on notice for future liability. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Kathleen G Bang 12 Callan Place Alameda, Ca 94502
