At the January 19, 2008 Annual Retreat EBBC members adopted a new campaign to advocate for a new BART Bicycle Access Plan. This makes sense given that Smart Growth and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) are garnering regional transportation planning attention. We further note that when the last BART Bicycle Access Plan was completed (2002), Safe Routes to Transit was still an EBBC vision, nor was BART ready to implement stair channels, e-lockers, racks inside paid areas, and wayfinding signs. Meanwhile, bicycling to BART continues to grow--as do bicycle thefts, particularly at suburban stations where the blackout forces bicyclists to risk parking.
