Pedaling for Oakland Schools
Make friends, support the community and raise money for neighborhood schools at the same time! Join us for the 10th annual Ride for a Reason on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Our kick-off registration party will be Friday night, December 1, 2017 from 6-8apm at Tip Top Bike Shop at 4800 Telegraph Avenue during the monthly buzz of first Friday Art Murmur. We’ll have music, snacks, and early bird registration pricing. Tip Top offer a 10% discount on parts as well as special low pricing for tune-ups to registered riders. We’d love to answer any questions you have at the kick-off party on December 1.
Ride for a Reason is an annual bike ride from Oakland to Sacramento to draw attention to the ongoing K-12 education funding crisis, and also to raise funds for school enrichment programs. There are three distance options: 45, 68, and 109 miles. Last year, 250 riders pedaled to Sacramento and raised $132,000 which was shared by seven local public schools. Riders are fellow Oakland parents, community members and students who rally together for this beautiful bike tour. We encourage riders to raise $250 or more in pledges; since our first ride in 2008, we have donated more than $650,000 to Oakland public schools!
We provide all the support you will need to go the distance on April 28th, including training rides and coaching, which start in January. To get more detailed information on Ride for a Reason or to register online, check out R4Rschools.com.
