OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, December 15
Location: Laney College Student Center/Cafeteria
900 Fallon St. (@9th St.)
Time: 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.*
In advance of this Saturday’s Open House, here is the latest version of the Lake Merritt Station Area Plan, [27.2MB pdf] showing plans for bikeways and streetscape improvements
Are you a Laney College student? Do you shop in Chinatown? Visit Oakland Museum? Work in Alameda County offices? Use the Lake Merritt BART Station?
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition has been working hard with our members and neighborhood partners to transform transportation around the Lake Merritt BART Station. Thanks to our members who have attended numerous community meetings so far - your calls for better bikeways, road diets, safer sidewalks and crosswalks are being heard.
Please join EBBC members and our coalition partners for the City of Oakland’s OPEN HOUSE to learn about the plans for bike lanes and street and open space improvements all around the Lake Merritt BART Station.
Oakland is planning new bike lanes on:
Oak St | Madison St |
7th St | 10th St |
Franklin St | Webster St |
8th St | 9th St |

While there is still much unjustified resistance to bikeways thru the heart of Chinatown, your EBBC team is constantly reminding decision makers that any monies they use to build the projects of this Plan will require the inclusion of bikeways. We have our success in having Alameda County adopt a ‘complete streets’ policy earlier this year to thank for this. Thus, you can expect that the Oakland Bikeway Network will be completed through Chinatown and the Lake Merritt BART Station area. However, we will need your continued support and involvement to make this happen.

*The event will begin with a presentation. Various staffed information stations will also illustrate the Draft Plan proposals. Light refreshments will be served. The draft proposals, along with identification of funding and implementation mechanisms are based on an ongoing community process, in collaboration with BART and Peralta Community College District, to create a Station Area Plan that will help guide how this area develops into the future.
Interpreters will be available during the presentation and materials will be available in English, Chinese and Vietnamese.
