Protect Transit

Author: Bike East Bay

Date: May 26, 2020

In the morning on Wednesday, May 27, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) will discuss recovery priorities for transit as the Bay Area readies to reopen. Transit faces daunting ridership declines. Boosting public confidence in the safety of using BART and buses is crucial to keeping essential workers protected, and keeping the network of public transit in the Bay Area strong.

The MTC has heard from Bike East Bay in our support of Amalgamated Transit Union 192, the largest labor union representing transit and allied workers in the United States. The ask is for personal protective gear (PPE) for drivers and transit riders, resources for everyday vehicle cleaning, and hazard pay for these workers. Please sign the ATU 192 petition and Bike East Bay will share it with MTC Commissioners tomorrow. If you are feeling passionate, submit comments of personal support by 5pm today.
