On Wednesday, October 6, 2010, nearly 60 schools across Alameda County, including Albany, will take part in a regional and international celebration – International Walk or Roll to School Day. In the United States, nearly 5,000 schools from all 50 states will participate and nearly 40 countries around the

Walk and Roll to School Day emphasizes the message of building healthy bodies and strong communities. It raises awareness about safe walking and biking, increasing physical activity among children and families, and protecting the environment.

During the 2009 event, Albany Strollers & Rollers members installed 150 free lights on the bikes of kids who rode to school, matching the number of lights the organization had sold over the past year. AS&R will join the celebration again this year and will install 150 free rear lights on bikes parked at Albany schools. Additionally, because of a donation from Safeway, AS&R will also install 250 free front lights as well!

Volunteers are needed to help install all 400 lights from 8am-9am at all the Albany schools. Please RSVP to Heather Cunningham, heatheremily12@yahoo.com if you are available to help.
