Date: April 20, 2011

san leandro logoYour recent input on the San Leandro Bicycle Plan will soon result in new bikeways. At its April 18, 2011 meeting, the San Leandro City Council approved the striping of 4.5 miles of new bike lanes in the Cherry City this year on several key bikeways, and the good news includes new bike lanes on:

  • East 14th St, north of Davis
  • San Leandro Blvd, north of Davis
  • Davis St, between the SPRR and East 14th St
  • Castro St downtown
  • Washington Ave, south of the BART tracks, and
  • Halcyon Dr

This project will implement in total 4.5 miles of Class II bike lanes and 13.2 miles of Class III bikeways in the eastern half of San Leandro.

I am thrilled to see more bike lanes being installed in San Leandro. Our recently approved Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is coming to life!

Michael Gregory, San Leandro City Councilmember

To celebrate, San Leandro City Councilmember and EBBC member Michael Gregory will lead a Council Ride on Bike to Work Day from Memorial Park on Bancroft Avenue (Callan & Bancroft) and ending at the San Leandro BART energizer station. The ride meets up at 7:00am and leaves at 7:15am. Coffee provided

New bikeways included in this project will complete gaps in the bicycle network in the eastern half of San Leandro to supplement the existing Class II and III Bikeways on Bancroft Avenue, Hesperian Boulevard, Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro Boulevard, and Foothill Boulevard. The project will support the multi-modal transportation system that is being developed in the City’s Priority Development Areas that are focused on transit-oriented developments.

Note: San Leandro will not be implementing the Class I Bike Path crossing the railroad bridge at Washington Avenue.
