From the Union City Department of Public Works:
In 2017, the City of Union City secured funding for the Union City Boulevard Bicycle Lane Improvements. These improvements will include construction of bicycle lanes on Union City Boulevard from 600 feet south of Alvarado Boulevard to the south city limits (Fremont). The project will construct approximately 2.2 miles of bicycle lanes. It is anticipated that construction of this project will occur in 2019 and 2020.
This project will close the bicycle lane gap in this section of Union City Boulevard. Upon project completion, Union City Boulevard will have bicycle lanes from the city limits with Hayward to the city limits with Fremont. The project also includes traffic signals modifications and the installation of a right-turn lane in the southbound direction at Union City Boulevard/Rocklin Drive to better facilitate right-turn movements associated with Delaine Eastin Elementary School.
In February, 2018, City Council approved a design contract for completion of the design of project improvements. The design consultant, Bellecci Associates, has started the preliminary stages of the design process. One of the first and most important steps in the design process is to conduct a public meeting to gather input and concerns from all stakeholders.
A public meeting to discuss the project will be held on Wednesday June 13, 2018 between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm at the Mark Green Sports Center, 31224 Union City Boulevard. This meeting will be an ‘open-house’ format and no formal presentation will be made.
The meeting will allow one on one interaction with City staff and the consultant design team to gather input and concerns from the local citizens. Citizens are invited to attend at any time between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
