Things That Go BOOM in the Night Ride

Saturday, August 13, 2016 - 7:30pm Lake Merritt Amphitheater

Fourth of July is never enough - let’s go see more fireworks! Even better, let’s ride bikes to get there.

Bike East Bay member-volunteer Steve will lead us about 6 miles, from the Lake Merritt Amphitheater to the Coliseum Amtrak Station, to share one of his favorite summer pastimes: watching the fireworks after an A’s game (without actually going to the game).

That means we’ll be riding at dusk and at night, so bring your lights! The route is mostly flat, and we’ll stick to bike lanes and trails. We’ll guide you through some of the tricky connections, and we’ll try to time it to ride in daylight as much as possible but not be toooooo early for the fireworks.

We’ll watch from virtually right under the fireworks, so they’ll be vivid and loud.

Bring a snack and enough warm clothing to be comfortable hanging out outside - and it does get windy. There is no official ride back, so plan your route ahead or bring a few dollars to hop on BART with us. We’ll leave right after the fireworks end, and should beat the ballgame crowd to the station.
