In 2014, Caltrans gave the City of Berkeley permission to move ahead with plans for double-roundabouts at the I-80 and Gilman Street interchange, located in West Berkeley near the boundary with the City of Albany.
The double-roundabouts (a conceptual drawing of which is shown to the right) are one of the alternatives proposed for the interchange in order to:
- Simplify and improve the navigation, mobility, and traffic operations at the I-80 /Gilman Street Interchange
- Reduce congestion, vehicle queues and conflicts at the I-80/Gilman Street Interchange
- Improve local and regional bicycle connections and pedestrian facilities through the I-80/Gilman Street interchange
- Improve safety for all modes of transportation
The Alameda County Transportation Commission, City of Berkeley, Caltrans, and the Consultant Team will prepare traffic studies, community outreach, preliminary engineering studies, and CEQA/NEPA environmental review studies.
We would like to invite you to attend the first community meeting to share your thoughts on the Gilman Street interchange project!80Gilman_Flyer.pdf Download the Flyer
