This is the fourth training ride in a multi-ride series leading up to the 2016 California Climate Ride (May 22-26). Everyone is welcome to join us for this ride, whether you are planning on participating in the Climate Ride or not. However, all participants will need to bring their own working bike and helmet, as well as any water (two bottles recommended) and snacks you may need on the ride, sunscreen, money for BART and lunch (or bring your lunch with you), and good spirits!
This hilly and moderate-paced ride will start right outside the faregates at the Orinda BART Station, then head on Camino Pablo towards the famous “Three Bears” loop around the San Pablo and Briones Reservoirs. We will be tackling the loop clockwise, taking us down San Pablo Dam Road to our first taste of hills on beautiful Castro Ranch and Alhambra Valley Roads, then turning onto Bear Creek Road for the Baby, Mama, and Papa Bear hills (and of course the tough Goldilocks bump at the end).
This will take us back to the intersection of Camino Pablo at mile 21, so riders will have the option of rolling the last four flat miles back to Orinda BART, or pushing it another 9 miles up and over the Berkeley hills on Wildcat Canyon Road then down Spruce Street toward the Downtown Berkeley BART. Riders heading back to Orinda BART can stop for lunch at one of the shops on Moraga Way, or those heading to Berkeley BART can find some grub in Downtown Berkeley.
This ride will include significant elevation gain and there are few bail-out spots, so please make sure your bike and all your gears are in good working order ahead of time.

This ride is a good way to meet other people going on the Climate Ride, ask questions about what to expect on the ride, as well as work up a sweat on some hills in a beautiful setting. ***Ride will be canceled in the event of rain***
