Climate Ride Training Ride #3: Oakland/Berkeley Hills

Sunday, March 8, 2015 - 10:00am to 1:00pm
This is the third training ride in a multi-ride series leading up to the 2015 California Climate Ride (May 17th-21st). Everyone is welcome to join us for this ride, whether you are planning on participating in the Climate Ride or not. However, all participants will need to bring their own working bike and helmet, as well as any water and snacks you may need on the ride, sunscreen, money for BART, and good spirits! If you don’t have a useable bike and helmet please feel free to rent them from Bay Area Bikes near the Bike East Bay offices in Oakland’s Jack London Square. ***Ride will be canceled in the event of rain***

This hilly and moderate-paced ride will start right outside the Rockridge BART Station, then ascend gradually over 1,200 feet into the Oakland hills on Broadway and Tunnel Road. At mile 6 we will regroup to catch our breath at Sibley Park before heading up another 300 feet on Grizzly Peak Blvd, checking out the beautiful views before descending into Berkeley all the way down Spruce Street to downtown. Riders can then get some lunch and hop on BART at the Downtown Berkeley station, or pedal back to the start at Rockridge BART.

This will be our first training ride with elevation and fewer good bail-out spots, so please make sure your bike and all your gears are in good working order ahead of time.

Route for this 17 mile ride:

This ride is a good way to meet other people going on the Climate Ride, ask questions about what to expect on the ride, as well as get a great, panoramic view of the bay. Find more information about the Bike East Bay Climate Ride team and our full training ride schedule at
