Tell Berkeley City Council to approve the San Pablo Ave improvements!

This Tuesday, November 14 at 4pm, Berkeley City Council will hold a special meeting to act on Alameda County’s planned safety enhancements and parallel bikeways projects along the San Pablo Avenue corridor in Berkeley.
Though originally proposed as a November 14 regular meeting consent item, Council’s Agenda and Rules Policy Committee (Mayor Arreguin and Councilmembers Hahn and Wengraf) introduced uncertainty by moving it to an action item at this special meeting.
Please tell Council to approve this long-awaited plan!

San Pablo Ave is dangerous by design. The proposed safety enhancements and parallel bikeways projects Council can approve next week are critical steps in the right direction. They will improve safety for all road users, while supporting comfortable multi-modal travel.
The project includes many pedestrian and bicycle crossing improvements (signals, medians, and turn restrictions), transit improvements (bus stop bulb outs), and traffic calming and daylighting along parallel bikeways. That said, the plan could have been even better had Berkeley opted to add bus and bike lanes for the entire length of San Pablo, as other cities are doing.
Learn more about this project via the Berkeley City Council item (large PDF) and Alameda County’s website.
