Elected officials ready to ride

Our elected officials in the East Bay love setting the example for others to follow, and active transportation is no exception. Many mayors of cities of the East Bay are ready to ride on Bike to Work Day, yet our goal is for every mayor and city council member to ride. You can help by reaching out to your city council and encouraging them to ride on the big day. All rides open to the public

  • Hayward Ride leaves 8:00am from Chabot College morning energizer station Hayward City Council Bike Ride, Thursday, May 10, starts 8:00am at Chabot College morning energizer station and rides to Hayward City Hall, arriving 8:45am. Join Mayor Mike Sweeney, Councilmember Olden Henson and many of Hayward’s leaders for a short, flat and fun ride to celebrate bicycling in Hayward.
  • Fremont Ride leaves 8:00am Fremont BART Station Join Mayor Gus Morrison, Vice-Mayor Suzanne Chan and the Fremont City Council for a short ride around Fremont that ends at Fremont City Hall around 8:45am Here is a map of the Council Ride with Mayor Gus Morrison

  • Dublin Councilmembers riding individually to East Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station Mayor Tim Sbranti of Dublin can’t wait for Bike to Work Day, and is really committed to making Dublin a more bike-friendly town. He’s promised to work on Dublin Blvd and adding bike lanes to this key route. Dublin Councilmembers are riding individually to the Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station to enjoy one of the largest energizer stations in the East Bay (and the energizer station with some of the best swag)
  • Emeryville Ride leaves 8:00am Emeryville City Hall Mayor Jennifer West and Councilmembers Nora Davis, Jac Asher, and Ruth Atkin are joining the Council Ride. The ride starts in front of City Hall at 8:00am, and after some photos rides up Park/43rd/Adeline to a City energizer station at 46th and Adeline. Talk to volunteers, get bags, etc, then ride back down 47th/Doyle/45th/Hollis to City Hall, done by around 9:00am.

  • Oakland Pedal Pools leave from various locations in Council Districts and arrive 8:15am at Frank Ogawa Plaza Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, EBBC’s Executive Director Renee Rivera, and many of the Oakland Yellowjackets will be riding in to City Hall on Bike to Work Day from the Eastmont Police Station meeting at 7:00am and stopping at the Fruitvale BART energizer station along the way. Join this pedal pool or join Councilmembers Rebecca Kaplan, Ignacio de la Fuente, Libby Schaaf and others in one of the 6 other Pedal Pools in Oakland and arrive at 8:15am for the Pancake Breakfast and press event at Frank Ogawa Plaza.   • Piedmont Piedmont will be hosting its first energizer station this year at Piedmont Connect, 1221 Grand Ave, from 7-9am. The equally exciting news is that Piedmont Mayor John Chiang will be joining the Oakland Pedal Pool at Grand Lake Theatre, that meets at 7:30am and rides into Frank Ogawa Plaza for a pancake breakfast and media event.
  • Berkeley Ride leaves 8:00am from N.Berkeley BART Station Mayor Tom Bates and many City Councilmembers Laurie Capitelli, Linda Maio, Kris Worthington and others are riding from North Berkeley BART Station to the Downtown Berkeley Bike Station, stopping along the way to visit some of Berkeley’s bikeway success stories.   • San Leandro Ride leaves 7:15am from San Leandro City Hall Vice Mayor Michael Gregary leads the Council Ride around for a short tour of San Leandro and arrives by 8:30am at the San Leandro BART Energizer Station, hosted jointly by the City and OSIsoft, one of this year’s Bike to Work Day sponsors
  • Richmond Mayor McCaughlin rides. Details coming Tuesday, May 9. Sorry for the delay.
  • Albany Ride leaves from 7:30 at Albany City Hall (San Pablo and Marin) Albany Mayor Farid Javandel will lead a Bike to Work Day ride with City Council, Commission and Committee Members and City Employees. The ride will tour some of Albany’s cycling highlights and trouble spots and finish at Albany Strollers & Rollers’ Energizer Station at Solano & the Ohlone Greenway, where we will have giveaways, snacks and our usual festive atmosphere! Join our City Officials for a fun start to your day!

    Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates

    Supervisors Scott Haggerty, Nate Miley are riding this year. Haggerty to the East Dublin BART Station energizer station and Miley to the Downtown Oakland energizer station.
