At its meeting on March 21, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors approved two changes to be presented to the membership for a vote at the general membership meeting at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, April 18th, at the Rockridge Library. First, the EBBC Board approved the nomination of two new Board Members, to fill seats left open by two board members who have recently left due to work and family obligations. Here are the candidate statements for the two nominated Members:
- Glenda Barnhart: Glenda is co-owner of Bay Area Bikes in Oakland and Pittsburg and Bay Area Bike Rentals at Jack London Square. A life-long cyclist, Glenda has held business management roles in local government and ‘retired’ from a career in mobile technology product management to pursue her joint passions of cycling and promoting the health and environmental benefits that come from a bicycle. Glenda has been an EBBC member since moving to the East Bay in 2008 and is a Pedalfest co-producer, along with the EBBC and Jack London Square.
- Tom Willging: I am a retired attorney, having worked for 25 years at the Federal Judicial Center. In Washington, DC., I was active in the Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail and the Washington Area Bicycle Association. Since moving to the Lake Merritt area of Oakland in July 2010 I have been active as a volunteer with EBBC and as a member of the VeloRaptors cycling club. Currently I am working with EBBC on revising its Bylaws and I plan to work on a history of the organization, in part as a way to learn more about cycling advocacy in the bay area. I participated in EBBC’s September 2011 two-day strategic planning session. I am enthused about cycling and pleased to find such a dynamic organization in my new home and I hope to able to contribute to its continuing success and growth in programs and geographic outreach.

These bylaws will be presented to the membership for a vote at the general membership meeting at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, April 18th, at the Rockridge Library. The East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s current bylaws were adopted in 1984. Since that time, the organization has grown from a small, volunteer-run group to a much larger organization with paid staff and a physical presence in our Berkeley office. The proposed revisions are intended to bring the bylaws in line with the needs of today’s EBBC. The revisions reflect considerable work by volunteers (including two attorneys) who considered current law as well as reviewing the bylaws of several other California bicycle coalitions. Links are provided below to a complete copy of the proposed bylaws as well as to a four page summary of the most significant changes. We encourage members to review this information and attend the meeting on April 18 to vote on the changes. In the meantime, questions can be addressed to Board Chair Tom Ayres.
