There’s never been a better time to be a bicyclist in the East Bay, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the East Bay Bike Coalition, which since 1972 has preached the two-wheel gospel by pushing for bike-safe streets, promoting group rides, and advocating for bicyclists all over the Bay. The coalition’s latest undertaking may be its most ambitious yet: a bike path across the Bay Bridge, from Oakland to San Francisco. None of this comes cheap, which is why the organization is holding a fund-raiser for the project on Thursday, Feb. 24, at the David Brower Center (2150 Allston Way, Berkeley). Speakers include the coalition’s new executive director, Renee Riviera; board member and former Tour De France racer Fast Freddie Rodriguez; and Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates. Music will be provided by a self-proclaimed “bike-part band.” 6:30 p.m., $10-$20. EBBC.org.
