RSVP to attend Berkeley City Council on October 31 and show your support for a stop-controlled crossing at the intersection of Dwight Way and California Street. We will send you an email reminder and update closer to the schedule council action item.
Thanks to dozens of letters from Bike East Bay supporters, parents, and neighbors, Councilmembers Kate Harrison (District 4) and Ben Bartlett (District 3) are co-sponsoring an action item to improve safety at the intersection of Dwight Way and California Street. City council will vote on whether to install either an on-demand traffic light, known as a HAWK beacon, or a 4-way stop sign.
This will be a significant step because drivers are legally required to stop for HAWK beacons and four-way stop signs, while they are not required to stop for flashing beacons. The latter, less effective solution, had been proposed for this and 49 other problem intersections in the Berkeley bike plan adopted last May. You deserve better.
