In partnership with Bike East Bay, the Oakland Public Library is co-hosting the Women Bike Book Club in 2017! Bike East Bay's Women Bike program enters its second year of bringing women and gender nonconforming folks together in social settings to share experiences and resources with each other.
Everyone is invited to discuss biking, feminism, and the intersection of the two, even if you run out of time to read the book. Join us on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm. This is after-hours for the library, so we'll let people in periodically at the front door. You're welcome to bring your bike inside.
The zombie apocalypse will be pedal powered! April's selection is Pedal Zombies: 13 feminist bicycle science fiction stories. Edited by Elly Blue (author of Bikenomics), this is collection encompasses everything from the hilarious to the terrifying. Download the eBook for free (did you know the library lends eBooks?) or ask for a book club copy at the Rockridge or Main Library reference desk - while supplies last.
Upcoming meetings of the Women Bike Book Club: Our May 11 meeting falls on Bike to Work Day! Meet us at Latham Square, where we will be taking part in Bike Happy Hour. Then join us June 8 at the Main Library; July 13, August 10 and September 14 at the Golden Gate Branch.
Stay tuned for future titles, and locations for the end of 2017!
