Women Bike Book Club

Registration is closed for this event
Everyone is invited to discuss biking, feminism, and the intersection of the two.

March is Women's History Month! So, naturally, we are delving into the history of women's cycling. Enjoy the whirlwind tale of Annie Londonderry, the first woman to circle the world on a bicycle, in "Around the World on Two Wheels: Annie Londonderry's Extraordinary Ride," by Peter Zheutlin.

Annie Cohen Kopchovsky was a young working mother of 3 when she set off from Boston in the spring of 1894 to circle the globe by bicycle. With her 42-pound bike, a revolver, and a change of underwear, Annie's trip embodied her own dreams of freedom - and also a high-stakes bet between two wealthy merchants. The epic journey that followed brought athletics and commercialism together to dizzying new heights, and turned Annie "Londonderry" into a symbol of women's equality.
