In partnership with Bike East Bay, the Oakland Public Library is co-hosting the Women Bike Book Club in 2017! Bike East Bay's Women Bike program is in its second year of bringing women and gender nonconforming folks together in social settings to share experiences and resources with each other.
Everyone is invited to discuss biking, feminism, and the intersection of the two, even if you run out of time to read the book. Join us on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm. You're welcome to bring your bike inside.
For August, we are reading Our Bodies, Our Bikes, edited by Elly Blue and April Streeter. Modeled after the classic women's health book "Our Bodies, Ourselves," the essays in this book are written by a diverse group of contributors and offer information and advice about the intersection of gender and biking. Topics range from "bike fit and clothing, to periods and childbirth, from media representation to gender presentation and reproductive rights," in a practical, friendly, down-to-earth manner. We'll discuss these subjects and anything you care to bring to the table!
Upcoming meetings of the Women Bike Book Club: August 10 and September 14 at the Golden Gate Branch (5606 San Pablo Ave).
Stay tuned for future titles and locations for the end of 2017!
