Bridging the Bay

The Alexander Zuckermann Bicycle & Pedestrian Path is open to Yerba Buena Island and over to Treasure Island. This milestone achievement for bike advocacy was achieved with support from thousands. However, our work is only half done. Regional Measure 3 has funds for Bay Trail projects and could fund final design costs for the West Span Path.

Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

A bicycle and pedestrian path on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge has been in the works for decades.
Throughout this project, Bike East Bay pushed for more: we won an additional $500,000 for bike lane and trail improvements, plus better ferry service and bike lane connections to connect Richmond neighborhoods to the bridge, the waterfront, ferry service, and each other.

Now, after years of relentless advocacy work, the path on the bridge is open! Get resources, routes, and the history on this project, decades in the making. We can’t wait to see you on the bridge!

The Bay Bridge

The Bay Bridge is one of the most well known symbols of the East Bay. And now, you can bike on it. Named after Bike East Bay’s founder, Alexander Zuckermann, the Bay Bridge bike path is a beautiful ride.

Since it’s been built, thousands of people have enjoyed walking and bicycling on the popular bike path extending from West Oakland. Bike East Bay has worked with Caltrans, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority to ensure timely completion of the bike path to Yerba Buena Island and safety improvements on the island. We also are working with these agencies on designs for the Bay Bridge West Span Pathway, as well as building a connection from West Oakland residential neighborhoods to the new East Span bike path.
