Overview

Bike East Bay’s Board of Directors is made up of energetic bicycle advocates and champions who are committed to advancing our mission of mobilizing by bike to build thriving communities that are joyful, safe, and inclusive.

Our Board provides strategic and financial oversight for the organization, and its members play a key role in fundraising and supporting staff as volunteers and advisors.

Commitment

For an overview of non-profit board roles and responsibilities, check out this helpful infographic about the three legal duties and ten basic responsibilities of non-profit boards. Our board members commit to the following:

  • Serve up to two, three year terms
  • Attend 4 quarterly board meetings  (typically, 2 meetings are virtual and 2 in-person) and, in some years, a retreat
  • Serve on at least one committee (Executive, Finance, Fundraising, or Advocacy) and attend committee meetings, which are often held virtually
  • Donate at a personally significant level
  • Develop a strong understanding of mobility justice
  • Participate in Bike East Bay fundraising efforts, including at fundraising events and through annual phonebanking calls to members
  • Support, promote, and grow Bike East Bay’s mission and social justice values
  • Uphold your legal and fiduciary duties as a board member
  • Complete the annual Board of Directors Fundraising & Engagement Pledge

Applications

The typical application cycle opens and closes in the fall, with new Board Members voted in at our February Member Meeting. However, we recruit year-round and would love to chat with you and answer any questions. Send an email to info@BikeEastBay.org with the subject line ‘Board Interest’ if you’d like to set up time to talk more.
