Bicycles Transformed, a Cycles of Change APC youth bike art show premieres July 3rd, 4-7

Alameda Natural Grocery is hosting a series of events in July for Cycles of Change APC Bike Shop, a friendly, non-profit community bicycle shop which opened in 2006. Its mission is to empower local communities by providing outstanding recycled bicycle services that are safe, thriving, creative and self-sustaining. Services include used bike sales, an earn-a-bike program, youth and adult job training, bicycle field trips, a community do-it-together repair shop, volunteer opportunities, and much more. Cycles of Change APC Bike Shop is a collaboration between Cycles of Change and Alameda Point Collaborative.

July 3rd-July 31st: “Bicycles Transformed” is a month-long art show featuring young artists, 5 to 20 years-old, from the Cycles of Change APC Bike Shop community. The hand-painted, salvaged bicycle frames will express the vitality and creativity of these youth. They will be on display in the produce section of Alameda Natural Grocery in Alameda Marketplace.

“Bicycles Transformed” Art Show Premiere, Friday, July 3rd, 4:00-7:00pm: The premiere of “Bicycles Transformed.” Free popcorn, proper helmet fitting, and a bicycle safety quiz are available to all. Complete the bicycle safety quiz to qualify for entry into the raffle for a brand new helmet.

Want to start commuting by bicycle? Learn useful tips: Sunday, July 12th, 4:00-7:00pm: Bicycle commuting is fun, good for your body and our community. Cycles of Change APC will offer helpful tips to get you rolling safely to wherever you need to go.

Fix a Flat: Sunday, July 19th, 4:00-7:00pm: Learn how to fix a flat from a youth member of the Cycles of Change APC Bike Shop community. Free patch kits for participants.

Bike Festival: Music, Food, Fun, Activities: Sunday, July 26th, 3:00-7:00pm: Bike Festival and closing celebration of “Bicycles Transformed,” mini-Cycles of Change APC Bike Shop, and Bicycle Donation Drive. Attendees are invited to donate bikes to support the non-profit community bike shop, participate in a community repair shop, and receive a bicycle fitting. Features local live music, free ice cream, and a raffle to win a bicycle donated by Alameda Bicycle.
