After years of work, Berkeley is ready to approve the designs for protected bike lanes on Milvia Street through Downtown Berkeley. Council will take up this item on December 3, so email Councilmembers at [email protected] to let them know you support the design. We need to make Berkeley’s most traveled bikeway safe and low-stress!

The design of new protected bike lanes is largely consistent for the length of the project between Hearst Avenue and Blake Street. However, the design of vehicle travel lanes varies greatly, and includes making Milvia Street one way for cars for portions of the street. The project will also improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Milvia and University. More information is available on the Milvia Bikeway Project website.

Berkeley Public Works have worked out many final design details, and the Downtown Berkeley Association supports the project, but there is no guarantee that all stakeholders are on board. Please let Council know you want this project approved and built as quickly as possible!
